The Covid-19 pandemic pushed 88 million to 115 million people into EXTREME poverty in 2020, with the total rising to as many as 150 million by 2021. Poverty plays a major role in deforestation. Many of the world’s rainforests are found in the poorest areas on the planet. Their poverty costs the entire world through the loss of tropical rainforests and wildlife. Without providing for these people, rainforests cannot be saved.
